CNN reports he has resigned and he was quoted saying "“I intend to resign as party leader, as prime minister, after the party selects its new leader,” as long as it is mentioned he is remaining a caretaker till someone is chosen to replace him but he has resigned nonetheless https://www.cnn.com/world/live-news/canada-justin-trudeau-resignation-01-06-25/index.html Ticketthedog (talk) 21:17, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The office of Prime Minister is not vacant. Also if youre going to use a news source about a Canadian topic, use a Canadian news source.
THE OFFICE IS NOT VACANT. THERE IS NO CARETAKER GOVERNMENT. The government has not fallen nor is it in an election THUS there is ZERO caretaker talk. 24.244.89.112 (talk) 03:30, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Ticketthedog: IP is correct. If you take the time to read the CNN article, you can see that he has not stepped down yet (emphasis mine): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Monday he intends to step down as the country’s prime minister, leaving office once a new ruling party leader is chosen. The Prime Minister of Canada is Mark Carney. Larn15716 (talk) 00:24, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done We need a WP:RS to positively show that Carney has been officially named by the Governor General. Currently we only have negative sourcing, namely, the official website shows Trudeau as of this datestamp [1] and an ABC News report [2] that indicates the appointment won't be solemnized until sometime later this week. Prime Minister-Designate?

[edit]

I have searched high and low for a news or journal article about the Prime Minister of Canada being called a "Prime Minister-Designate" while they wait to be sworn in. I cannot even find a news article calling him a "Prime Minister-Elect". 208.94.236.115 (talk) 15:52, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Here you are. Mark Carney, newly elected Liberal Party of Canada leader and prime minister-designate…Kawnhr (talk) 18:47, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Although it hasn't really been used in the past this is the normal process in Canada.... But today the media use it on Mass as a clickbait tactic. Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL. Moxy🍁 21:57, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's been in use for a while. Here it is 2015, 2006, 2003. — Kawnhr (talk) 02:50, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Who has designated him? Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 02:51, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I guess showing my age....as a few prime ministers ago is not long in my view. Moxy🍁 04:08, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
